Silverthe game launches and functions fine (no missing textures, audio/controller/overlay all work, as does alt-tabbing) however the performance is lacking. Steady 60FPS can be maintained in some areas but in places like the main city it can drop to as low as 23FPS, which is a big deal since as an early report stated the game logic is tied to framerate. You can mitigate this a bit by pointing the camera down to the ground, but ultimately the game needs some work before it can be considered gold/platinum. BronzeOn first start: 'getthreadcontext failed' (a common error message you may get with Unity Engine games and Nvidia drivers). Use PROTONUSEWINED3D=1%command% in Steam Launch Option and the game's message box shows up, letting you choose the usual Unity games options (resolutions/graphic quality).Game runs super bad and slow on my PC which can run Witcher 3 or Tomb Raider on max 60FPS and AC Odyssee at 30FPS clocked (1080p). This little game does not want to run at 30FPS with Wine/Proton on lowest settings. BronzeThe game starts fine, but the main interface for the whole game is meant to be a 3D globe of the earth which you can pan around to travel between cities.
On my laptop it is rendered incorrectly as a bright yellow transparent sphere (like a gaseous sun) with no surface features and with the text of the cities barely legible in white. While it's technically possible to play, this makes it annoyingly difficult to navigate and I don't find it comfortable enough to play through. The various text dialogs also have some minor graphical glitches. Disabling D3D11 or using Wine D3D11 had no effect.
Disabling esync caused it get stuck on a black loading screen. SilverAlmost a full playthrough, I'm only missing a few time rifts but I played all acts. You have to install xact to avoid audio issues (easiest way is through protontricks: install and then run `protontricks 253230 xact`).There is a very minor glitch (white flashes) in one of the early levels, but it doesn't really affect gameplay and that level is only 5 minutes long anyways. The rest of the game renders with no issues. No problems either with controller support. My Logitech F310 is recognized as a 360 gamepad but whatever, it works. That game is aaalmooost Gold.but I have to rate it Silver because performance is not as good as it should be, especially in high-polycount areas like Mafia Town.

Thankfully there are plenty of graphical options to tweak, and I could to maintain a mostly stable 60 FPS with the game still looking good. But that may not be achievable on older hardware.Boop! SilverRequires winetricks/protontricks to install xact to fix sound issues. Xaudio27 override alone did not help on my system. Massive texture issues during rain in the first world (one short level) and minor texture issues in levels in the second world. If the game refuses to start with error R6025, delete steamapps/common/HatinTime/HatinTimeGame/Config/HatinTimeEngine.ini.
Deletion can be done via launch options if desired. I played the entire game start to finish, no issues are gamebreaking. SilverPlayed through the entire game in Proton. You need to install xact to get the audio working properly, although it will still have issues with crackling sometimes. There are some graphical errors with the rain in some of the Mafia Town levels which can possibly obscure your vision and force you to restart the level. There are also some minor graphical errors with the UI that generally only appear for one frame, and in the Alpine Skyline area the tree swaying animations are broken but don't impact gameplay. BorkedFirst time setup took abnormally long, and then it paused indefinitely on 'Preparing to launch.'
Terminal is spamming 'eventfd: Too many open files.' Running steam with ulimit -n 4096 fixed that problem, but then it gets past that part and just hangs again before the window is created. No abnormal error messages in the Terminal. After that, I killed all wine/proton-related processes and tried launching again. It goes through the first time setup again, and then promptly crashes. Steam terminal output of crash here: https://pastebin.com/eX4rjaQ8. SilverIt works full screen with high preset settings! The problem is to start the game.
At start we only have a black screen with the green cursor; when you see 'Access Steam Community. Shift tab' message, press 2x ESC button, and you land to the splash screen, then the menu. With a bright green background! But, you're able to access all menus and start the game. Vanilla version tested successfully (Reboot Edition crashes all the time); no login done, played offline on skirmish mode. SilverUnder 3.7-8, after applying the launcher rename tweak detailed by others the game launched for me, but it would not allow me to progress beyond the initial mod detection screen.
It had an error connecting to the Steam network and did not progress. After upgrading to 3.16-4 the steam network issue disappears. The scroll speed in game is a bit off but haven't had time to play a full game yet. Initially seems responsive and graphics look fine, though there was a static screen when my game first launched. BorkedEntering the CD-Key is impossible, unless 'corefonts' are installed (The default Font's character width is too large to fit into the Textboxes).Installing mfc42 is necessary, otherwise the game will throw up a 'PID DLL missing' error when attempting to verify the entered CD-Key.The game starts up, Intro Cutscenes play without any issues. However, instead of showing the Main Menu Screen, the Game crashes.Launching the Game in a Virtual Desktop results in an infinite loading screen with misplaced textures instead of a crash message. GoldI managed to get it to run by following the steps in this post: had to edit the path to the steamapps folder location in the post linked to above and in the protontricks Python script, because I've changed the location of the Steam Library folder using the Steam client and it's different from the default location. There were also a lot of errors and warnings thrown at me as I was installing the required components, but it apparently didn't matter since I was able to play a multi-player game session that lasted for more than an hour and it ran without any noticeable issues.
GoldYou have to set 'Windows Version' to 'Windows XP' in winecfg and install l3codecx with winetricks. That's enough to make 'Asian Dynasties' (and 'The War Chiefs', but that's less important) playable. I didn't play game much, but as far as I can tell you have access to all content (campaigns, faction, etc.) from main game and 'The War Chiefs' expansion in 'Asian Dynasties', so you don't really need to launch main game ('Play Age of Empires III: Complete Collection' in menu), which required key. If for some reason you want to launch it, you have to install mfc42 and (maybe, I don't have to) corefonts with winetricks to make key insert dialog work.On Debian (and probably on derivatives) Proton prefixes located in the '$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata' directory, so you can do this to launch winetricks for 'Age of Empires III':export WINEPREFIX='$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/105450/pfx'winetricks -gui. BronzePerformance is good when in game. The in-game 3d graphics look good. The sounds and music all play like they should.Errors:1.The 'twitter' style pop-ups, and achievement pop-ups, that play while in the main game, both have no text.2.
There is also no text above or below the pictures of the airports, in the airport selection menu.3. There is no text/pictures in the Instruction part of the game.4. The menu option, 'Instructions' has no pictures or text. Maybe there are even GIFs or videos embedded here, which don't play.5.
There definitely is some missing content in the High Scores list - explanation screen.6. The sounds get garbled sometime (music keeps playing normally), but some kind of crunching sound plays.Crashes:1. I've got the game to crash sometimes with: Main Menu - High Scores - Explanation.Just playing the main game seems stable enough though. BronzeUnfortunately I have to downgrade my previous rating due to the following issues:Performance: continuous play, on 'Madness' amount of planes, on the Zurich airport, after 280/300 planes: frames per seconds dropped significantly, and very sluggish input. I think it could lead up to crashes later on. I just shut the game down and restarted fresh.Error: Maybe some kind of memory leak in Wine/Proton? The game isn't demanding graphically or computationally, I think.
So there must be something else that's lowering performance over time. SilverI played one of my old saves. There are no tweaks needed, and game generally works, but both at medium and max settings (didn't test others) there are various minor graphical glitches from time to time (shadows, shadings, some flickering textures), but not very often, and can be ignored. The mouse input is a bit lagy or has bad acceleration, which make it a very hard to play, but I didn't play it on Windows in long time, so hard to judge.
Frame rate is very good at 1920x1200. Video cut scenes, audio, etc, all works good. So somewhere between Bronze (because mouse input makes it hard to play) and Silver (because of minor glitches). BronzeHad one random freeze in 5 hours of gameplay.
Also, character progress does not save unless you create symbolic link of your /home/ /.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Alien Swarm Reactive Drop/reactivedrop/cfg/ folder (the cfg folder itself; right click 'make link' on the cfg folder to make a symbolic link) and browse to /home/ /.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/563560/pfx/drivec/Program Files (x86)/Steam/ and create the following folders within that directory: /steam/steamapps/common/Alien Swarm Reactive Drop/reactivedrop/ and put the cfg symbolic link there, rename it from 'Link to cfg' to just 'cfg' (without quotes). With the above instructions, being your steam user name, so change that to what your user name is.
That will fix the game not maintaining character progression. GoldAs the other reviews show it it stalls on installation with installing.NET 4.0. If you install.NET 4.0 through Winetricks into the prefix Steam has for Angles Fall First, the rest of the installation work fine and the game launches and runs (I haven't tested multiplayer, but I played a game with bots with no issues).Steps:1. Install winetricks if not already2. Find the wine prefix for Angels Fall First (probably /home/ /.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/367270/pfx3. In a terminal run 'WINEPREFIX=/home/ /.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/367270/pfx winetricks'4.
Choose 'Select the default wine prefix'5. Choose 'Install a Windows DLL or Component'6. Scroll down and choose 'dotnet40'7. I got a lot of warning messages (and some errors) because it's meant for 32-bit wine and not 64 bit.
Just hit okay through everything; it worked for me.8. Launch Angels Fall First. It will display an error saying 'Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application'. Click it anyway; it will install some other software. Finally the game will launch.9. BorkedThe game launchers and functions normally but constant Blackscreen, which obviously makes it impossible to do anythingI've tested the following:- Forcing Windowed Mode via Game's config file. Result: Blackscreen- Changing the DirectX version from 10 to 9 in the Game's config.
Result: Blackscreen- Launching the Game in a Virtual Desktop. Result: Blackscreen, but mouse was permanently locked in-bounds to only a small portion of the Window. There seems to be no fix or Workaround for this issue as of yet. This game runs fine with regular Wine-Staging however. SilverThe cdkey must be entered in registry, but its in binary. To get the game to run, I installed under wine/lutris, exported the key named 'key' under 'HKEYLOCALMACHINESoftwareWow6432Nodebohemia interactive studioarma 2', then started the registry editor under the game's prefix ((WINEPREFIX=/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/33910/pfx/ regedit)). Import the reg file containing the key only, and launch the game with the registry editor still open. A few secs after clicking 'play', close the registry editor and the game will start.
Unfortunately this has to be done before every launch of the game, because the key is apparently cleared every time the game starts. BorkedIn the third option (Configured Advanced options) it shows me the cd-key that I will have to enter later in the game. Then direct3d is installed automatically and a preference sale appears (choose the game language, resolution, device type (Direct3D HW T&L, Direct3D or Glide), it recognizes me by default Direct3D HW T&L. Then the game starts (you can see the 'Bohemia' logo for a little while) and then appears 'Bad Serial number given in Setup' but I was never able to pre-enter my cd-key. So I don't know if it's stable and if it's a graphic error or not.I've tried this: Right click Arma Cold War Assault, Click Properties, Click Local Files, Click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
But then the same error still appears: 'Bad Serial number given in Setup'.I am now testing the beta of the game ( Right click Arma Cold War Assault, Click Properties, Betas - 'testing'). BorkedTechnically the launcher opens but it is just a ghosted window of what ever was on the screen at the time with no actual graphics. If you press the super key you can see that it is rendered correctly but selecting it goes back to the non-rendered window. You can guess where the play button is and it will respond but steam just shows 'running' for about 3 seconds and terminates.
As people are reporting some success on Arch and Ubuntu this might be a specific issue to Fedora?I can get much further using wine staging with DXVK put the game will not progress past the 'Turinium Optimised' loading screen. SilverI made a report yesterday saying that this game is unplayable. I decided to completely un-install and re-download the entire game again to see if it made any difference. To my surprise the game actually run first time. The Launcher is still an untextured window for me. You have to press the Super Key (Windows button) on the keyboard to see that it is open.
Once you guess where the play button is the game will launch. (The best way I have found to do this is to open a web browser on your primary monitor, start Ashes Launcher and then minimise the web browser. The outline of the window will become apparent). On my machine the game will only run if I have 'Disable Esync' set.
Without this steam says 'running' for 3 seconds and then stops. With my machine I have set the graphics settings to 'High' @ 1920x1080 and run the in game benchmark to give you an idea of how it runs. The benchmark gives an average FPS of 76.3 with a peak of 97 FPS.Definitely playable. All multiplayer options are greyed out so single player is the only option at the moment but this is a very promising start. Goldokay, apparently disregard my previous posts. Vulkan was not activating, and hence, no DX11 capability.i'm not giving it a platinum rating because VULKAN still won't work. Which i think is actually proton's fault here. (or maybe it's something else i don't know.)game ran as well as windows otherwise, had a massive match (13 insane AI) ended up leaving match when each of the remaining three ai fielded around 300k armies.by then, this poor card was well below 10fps.
(under windows it ran like a bag anyway. Card is not quite upto it). Borkedlauncher appears, however if you press either play, or play in safe mode, launcher disappears and game crashes without showing.my first sign of a possible culprit was when i tried to force it to vulkan output, i clicked edit settings file in the launcher, and notepad (wine) shows up. Unable to find file.you can SAVE the file, but it still fails to appear.I tried copying my WINDOWS data for the game into the compat data equivilant, again same problem.in this case, my summary is it can't read the files due to some pathing thing, and has no settings, causing the engine to crash.that said, i'm running fedora, and i've seen something about this, but no actual how to fixes.I don't think i tried advanced fixes (it was the first game i messed with, still figuring stuff out). SilverThe Game starts form the Stardock-launcher. The Launcher has an option to reset all settings.
I did this before trying the game.Only DirectX 11 (witch is selected as the standard api) works. DirectX 12 is not available in the settings. Vulkan can be selected but causes the game to crash at the restart that is needed to apply the settings. I had to reset my pc and had to reset the game settings with the stardock launcher to make it work again.I did some benchmarking and played a short skirmish match. Performance was good ( about stable 48 fps) at high quality graphic preset. SilverInstalled corefonts as mentioned previously.
Like the person below, I was able to follow that post and create symlinks, although my libgnu files were in different folders than was posted. '/usr/lib/x8664-linux-gnu/libgnutls.so.30.22.0' for the 64-bit and '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgnutls.so.30.22.0' for the 32-bit. Once UPlay installed, it wanted to install the Windows version of steam. I installed it to a different directory just in case, but didn't run it and the game loaded fine. I have the same issue with the resolution and steam controller though. I also have to close UPlay (since it's left running in the background) in order for Steam to launch the game again. Other than that, I have the settings maxed on almost everything and the game runs with a small stutter here and there but is otherwise fine.
GoldWould not work with nvidia 396 it required 410 and, gnutls, corefonts. Stayed with black bars to keep controller working. Required to install libnvidia-gl-410:i386 (sudo apt install libnvidia-gl-410:i386) for steam to start after updating to 410.
Also, after uplay installed steam inside wine I had to make sure that it would not update (steam in wine - pressed cancel while downloading). On previous tests I left it update and it would eventually reach a point where the game would not start and wine-steam would complain that it can't connect to the servers. SilverUplay won't work at first, install MS corefonts in your distro and then do this: After that the game will run but you might need to do something about your resolution; use winecfg to set a virtual resolution and solve that. If you use the Steam Controller softaware though, the virtual resolution fix caused an issue with it, I re-purposed the Desktop Profile to go around that, not the cleanest solution but it worked. Hopefully by the time Proton rebases itself against Wine again those workarounds won't be needed anymore.
